The Story of Creation
The history of the Furlo Gorge dates back to antiquity. In the days of the Roman Empire, Emperor Vespasian ordered the construction of a road, the “Flaminia,” to connect Rome with the Adriatic Sea. This road passed through a narrow natural gorge, which subsequently took the name of Furlo, derived from the Latin "Forulum" which means small hole or passage.
The Middle Ages and Beyond
Over the centuries, the Furlo Gorge has been the scene of many historical events. In the Middle Ages, the gorge was defended by a fortress built by Frederick Barbarossa. This rich and fascinating history is intertwined with epic events, making the place a tangible testimony to the past.
